![]() Fallout 2 and Baldur's Gate 2 were my first Western cRPGs, and they instantly became two of my all time favorite games. ![]() I personally grew up playing console JRPGs- I didn't have friends who were into tabletop gaming, wasn't familiar with it, and my family had Macs so my PC gaming options were limited. But enjoying games like Skyrim or JRPGs doesn't in any way preclude enjoying cRPGs either. I agree that the best bet may be to watch videos and try to get a better sense of what style of game PoE is, and that it's extremely dissimilar to Skyrim and the new Fallout games in most respects, and that enjoying those types of games in no way guarantees you'll enjoy this type of game. You'd be better off picking up some older Elder Scrolls games. So, when you begin with "is this game like Skyrim?", no it is not. This is opposite of games like Fallout 3 and Skryim which have very weak narratives that you are generally supposed to ignore going off to mine things or collect special bottlecaps. This story has a very strong narrative, and it is expected that you will follow that narrative. It isn't a case of go where you want and do where you want. The actual Fallout, mind you, not Bethesda Fallout, which I call Falloutscrolls. Pillars of Eternity shares more similarities with Fallout. I like that success is more about character ability rather than player ability. I like character creation being about character atributes and abilities rather than aethetics. I like heavy amounts of dialogue and excellent story. ![]() I like that these type of games are closer to the tabletop roots of roleplaying games. What do you like so much about PoE and cRPGs in general? I guess I'm pretty unfamiliar. Honestly, no, the majority of RPGs I've played have been on handheld consoles and a lot of jRPGs. But, again, this is probably not something you would like. I've been playing it nonstop since release. If that makes you want to play it then you can be reasonably sure you won't be disappointed since PoE lives up to expectations. I would recommend you watch the first two or three episodes of a Let's Play of PoE. They are all very good but obviously different people like different ones better. You could also look at Divinity Original Sin, Shadowrun Dragonfall and Wasteland 2 which are all recent games and part of what has been called the cRPG renaissance. ![]() I would say that if you wanted to try out a classical party based isometric view cRPG then PoE is a very good example to start with. You games library doesn't have anything in it remotely comparable to Pillars. Then again there is no particular reason why you shouldn't like it either, it's impossible to tell really. If you like Skyrim thre is no guarantee that you will like Pillars too. Does Pillars of Eternity have the story, the world, the enormous amount of content like Skyrim/Fallout, and the replayability? I love games like Skyrim and Fallout - the story, the world, the stuff to do, and most importantly, the replayability.
